On Tuesday the 14th of October, we attended a group networking event at the Wivenhoe House Hotel, a very impressive venue. The networking event was hosted by The Consortium, who provide businesses with support services, such as mentoring, workshops, training, consulting, grants and access to finance.

The speaker at the event was Colin Lewin, of The Lewin Clinic, previously a physio from Arsenal FC who delivered a fantastic speech about teamwork in the job.

Teamwork is one of the most valuable skills for business owners to understand, and not only that, for their employees too. With vast experience and knowledge in sports medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, The Lewin Sports Injury Clinic, based in Hainault, provides their clients with an exceptional bespoke care pathway from sports injury to return-to-sport.

Colin was an exceptional speaker, who provided brilliant leadership insights on how to work at an optimal level as a team. He went into great depth on how working as a physio had given him a wealth of experience in teamwork, and how his job working with Arsenal had introduced him to many issues when it came to functioning as a team.

The most powerful things he talked about were dealing with egos, and the issues caused by the introduction of diversity. He also pointed out many of the issues caused by implementation of new ideas, and accepting rules put in place to accommodate people, but he also explained why they were not only necessary but highly valuable. He followed up with taking a round of questions which he answered beautifully, showing reflection on his experiences and offering some great advice. He was a truly brilliant speaker and extremely knowledgeable.

It was an awesome experience meeting many of our fellow business owners there, including a web designer who talked a lot about her business, the problems of AI and how her company operated, a business consultant from Ellison’s solicitors, who provided many valuable insights about working as a consultant and was happy to sit and talk with us providing insights on his many years of experience, a kitchen builder with experience in a huge number of different job and company roles over the years who talked about his adventures in the business world, and a banker who talked about what it was like being a female boxer. (I’m glad I stayed on her good side!)

The event was sponsored by the North Essex Economic Board (or NEEB.)
